Minister’s Musings
Though Chicagoans have more cause than usual to celebrate the coming of
spring-even so, it was snowing on April 28th as I composed this note-the mood at
Third Church is usually upbeat in May. Vernal greens begin to frame the mottled
browns and grays of our church exterior, and the laughter of kids from the
daycare (and our RE program on Sundays) playing in our soon-to-be expanded
backyard area is a welcome antidote to the wearying scrape of city plows on
Fulton Street. Read More
RE/DRE Notes
On April 27th all members and friends of TUC had an opportunity to
participate in shaping the 2008-2009 direction of the RE program. Our goal at this meeting was to renew our group consensus about
the importance of our youth and the RE programs as to how we intend to grow in
the years ahead. To that end, we want to demonstrate the need for new "boots on
the ground" in our RE programs. Here is what I hope becomes a very badly kept
secret: working with our kids is the most fun you can have on Sunday!
Honestly, we should charge people to help us! RE is the place to be at
10:00 and 11:00! Read More
Board Notes
At our April 2008 meeting, the Board approved giving funds in the collection
plate on Scholarship Sunday (May 4, 2008) not earmarked for a
specific purpose--such as payment of a pledge--to help fund future scholarships.
Giving away undesignated funds to a deserving cause has proved very popular in
other churches and is something the board wants to explore doing more often. Read More
Congregational News and Notes
What's the most fun a member or friend of TUC can have outside of church?
That's right, the church's donut date has been announced. It is May 31. (No,
that's not Memorial Day weekend). Contact James Kane to reserve your favorite
job and time. For newcomers, Donut Day is a TUC tradition. We make and sell
donuts at the Oak Park Farmers market to raise funds for our church. It can be
hard work, and we need lots of help. But it's full of camaraderie, and you are helping the church through the
sweat of your own brow without having to bug anyone to buy something. TJ
Bamonte had so much fun last year he wants to work two shifts!!! For More News
