Unitarian universalist

We are a Unitarian Universalist congregation, celebrating 154 years on Chicago's west side!  We believe in love's power to foster healing, combat oppression, and transform our world.  With historical roots in the Christian and Jewish traditions, we affirm and promote truths in many of the world's major religions, affirming the 7 principles of Black Lives of UU, the 7 principles of Unitarian Universalism, and the 8th Principle.

On October 6, 2019 we adopted the 8th principle:

  • We, the congregation of Third Unitarian Church, covenant to affirm and promote our journey toward spiritual wholeness by cultivating a diverse, multicultural and multiracial Beloved Community through deliberate actions that dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.

Our spirituality draws from scripture and science, nature and philosophy, personal experience and ancient tradition as described in the Six Sources of Unitarian Universalism.  We are people of all ages, many backgrounds, and many beliefs, who come together to create a spiritual community, working for more justice and compassion in our world.
